Words by Jesse Serwer—

Vybz Kartel’s absence has forced video directors to get creative, as Kartel’s continued popularity, in spite of his incarceration on two separate murder charges, necessitates promotion of the massive amount of material the Werl’ Boss left in his wake. The latest example is “My Crew,” from Kartel’s Kingston Story LP, re-issued today in physical form by Vice Records after a phyical-only 2011 release through Mixpak Records. The video spotlights the breadth of Kartel-themed graffiti in the area of Portmore known as Gaza City, as well as the area’s youth, from likkle pickneys jumping over a gully to bandana-clad young men pouring liquor down from rooftops. Watch below.

Kartel’s Kingston Deluxe: Hear It Now Here

Words by Erin MacLeod—

It was a big deal when the Dre Skull-produced Kingston Story dropped last year. Matching the innovative and interesting riddims of the MixPak label boss with the equally innovative and interesting lyrics of dancehall’s Werl’ Boss, the album has been selling digitally and singles picking up radio and sound system play from NYC to KIN. Now, thanks to Vice Records, Kingston Story is getting the full vinyl and CD treatment–available August 13. And, of course, there will be some extra goodies tucked in to the album for good measure.  Thing is, you don’t have to wait to listen. You can check out the record (and the extras) right here.
