Audio: Cris Cab x Melanie Fiona x Shaggy, “Turn You On”

Words by Jesse Serwer

The force really seems to be aligning behind 18-year-old reggae-pop protege Cris Cab. The Cuban kid from Miami dropped his Echo Boom mixtape today, featuring production from Wyclef (who’s executive producing Cab’s upcoming debut LP) and Pharrell Williams, and, unsurprisingly, it’s everywhere. We’d like to bring your attention to two tracks in particular that we’re jamming to the most—at least on first listen. The first being “Turn You On,” featuring two of our favorite Caribbean crossover acts in Shaggy and Melanie Fiona, and the other being “Put In Work,”—’cause any track that starts out with ‘Clef referencing Phil Collins just wins on GP. Download Echo Boom here, and listen to “Turn You On” and “Put In Work” below.

Chin Music: Watch Shaggy + Kat De Luna on Jay Leno

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Mr. Bombastic hasn’t been this ubiquitous since he was claiming “It Wasn’t Me.” On NBC’s Today Show, performing with the Roots and Rahzel at the Okayplayer Holiday Jam—it seems like Shaggy has been everywhere lately. As some of you may know, this weekend he’s in Kingston for his annual Shaggy & Friends charity concert, an event that promises to be bigger than ever thanks to the involvement of Ms. Lauryn Hill. Last night, he stopped into The Tonight Show to give Jay Leno and his infamous chin a rare taste of Caribbean flavor, performing “Dame” (from last year’s digital Summer in Kingston EP, which finally gets a physical release next month) with “Whine Up” singer Kat DeLuna in tow. Watch the video here, and check out our LargeUp TV footage of Shaggy rocking with Rahzel, hyping up Patra, and dropping “Nice and Lovely” with Rayvon and the Roots, all from last month’s holiday jam.

LargeUp TV: Patra + Friends Jam with the Roots

Words by Jesse Serwer:::Video by Kevin Ornelas:::Photo by Anthony Andrada—

In our second video from the historic The-Roots-Meet-Dancehall-Allstars session at this year’s Okayplayer Holiday Jam, Mr. Easy starts things off with a quick snippet of his classic “Drive Me Crazy” before a shapely Patra, looking incredible in a camo Butch Diva spandex suit with high-heel boots (is it us or is she looking sexier than ever these days?), wines her way onstage, taking the spotlight with her classic “Romantic Call,” while Shaggy and Rahzel provide support. Watch Part 1 here, and look out for the third and final clip—with Rayvon and Red Fox joining Shaggy, Patra and Easy—soon.
