Ghetto Youths International’s Set Up Shop, Volume 1 is out today and, while the compilation features a whole heap of tracks from album producer Damian Marley, including the brand-new “Dem Neva Make It” and the not-so-new “Affairs of the Heart,” and a heavyweight collaboration from Stephen Marley, Buju and Akon, one of the tracks that’s got us pressing repeat comes from the next generation of Marley kids.

If you’re having a case of the mid-week blues, LargeUp has the cure. Chronixx, our “Artist to Watch” for 2013 (and quite possibly the “obi wan” of contemporary reggae music), has dropped a video for his anthemic “Beat & A Mic” and it has just the positive vibes to get you through to Friday. The video follows Chronixx on a bicycle ride with friends complete with scenic Jamaican oceanviews and some coconuts thrown in for good measure. The track, produced by Bost and Bim has an old-school, tranquil energy and the video does a fantastic job of supporting the message and tone through some real nice visuals. Check it out below.

Chronixx—our No. 1 Artist to Watch for 2013—is definitely starting the year out with a bang. Fresh off his recent sitdown with our Erin MacLeod, the singer has announced an appearance at next week’s Rebel Salute concert and an upcoming collaboration with Sizzla. He was also spotted this week on the set for Major Lazer’s 90s-dancehall-period-piece video for “Bumaye” featuring Busy Signal. And now he’s just dropped his first video of the year, for one of his most accessible tunes to date in “The Mini Song.”

Freddie McGregor is set to release his first album of new material in seven years, Di Captain, on Jan. 29 and to give us a taste of what to expect, Di Captain of Jamaica’s Big Ship has just issued “Equal Rights.” But McGregor already has an “Equal Rights,” you say? Well, yes—yes, he does. This one is an update of the Heptones’ original 1968 tune “Equal Rights,” which McGregor then recorded with the Heptones and Jah Buzz for Studio One in the ’70s. Stream the new one—touched up by Mr. McGregor in a fine style—then revisit the Heptones and Heptones/McGregor/Jah Buzz O.G.s below:

‘Round here, we know Martei Korley as our creative director (not to mention co-founder and chief photographer) but he’s also a crooner who—when he’s not shooting Beres album covers or taking flicks for Rolling Stone—has recorded with some of Jamaica’s top musicians and producers.
