New Audio: Ninjaman’s “Dawg Nyam Yuh Supper”

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Ninjaman Dawg Nyam Yuh Supper

With the backing of Downsound Records‘ Josef Bogdanovich (aka “The Last Don”), the always unpredictable Ninjaman has seemingly become more prolific and focused than ever. The Original Front Tooth Gold Tooth Gun Pon Tooth Don Gorgon has released a torrent of new music in the past few weeks through Downsound, including his best song in nearly two decades, and a brilliant video for his single “Dweet.” His latest leak, “Dawg Nyam Yuh Supper” keeps the string going with some biting social commentary tackling the current economic crisis in Jamaica, delivered over a minimalist riddim from Cordell “Skatta” Burrell. The tune has a more traditional feel than your typical Ninjaman track—at least until it ends with one of Ninja’s trademark rants.

You Rate It: Eve x Lady Saw x New Kidz, “Money Green”

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Eve Lady Saw

Eve spent some time in Jamaica last month and, while there, she paid a visit to one of our favorite dancehall labels, Truckback Records, where she voiced producer Steve Locke’s new Pink Wall riddim. The sexy rapper-turned actress (whose previous flirtations with reggae/dancehall include collaborations with Damian and Stephen Marley and Shaggy) passed on the opportunity to chat ’bout her pink walls, though, opting instead to talk dollar signs with Lady Saw and New Kidz on a track called “Money Green.”

Row Like a King: Watch Beenie Man’s “Super Model” Video

Words by Emily Shapiro—

Beenie Man Super Model video

Yesterday, the self-proclaimed King of the Dancehall released a new video for his tune “Super Model,” and it’s no surprise that the only modesty in King Beenie’s video is the shabby rowboat he has filled with fly, half-naked women. The song is on Dre Skull’s Kling Klang riddim, which has already spawned videos from Popcaan (for “So We Do It”) and Tifa (for “Champion Bubbler.”)

Positive Vibes: Watch Chronixx’s “Beat & A Mic” Video

Words by Emily Shapiro—

Chronixx

If you’re having a case of the mid-week blues, LargeUp has the cure. Chronixx, our “Artist to Watch” for 2013 (and quite possibly the “obi wan” of contemporary reggae music), has dropped a video for his anthemic “Beat & A Mic” and it has just the positive vibes to get you through to Friday. The video follows Chronixx on a bicycle ride with friends complete with scenic Jamaican oceanviews and some coconuts thrown in for good measure. The track, produced by Bost and Bim has an old-school, tranquil energy and the video does a fantastic job of supporting the message and tone through some real nice visuals. Check it out below.
