Video: Wrongtom meets Deemas J “Superteng”

Words by Deejay Theory —

TRUDD074_300ppi_RGB

London dancehall revivalists Wrongtom & Deemas J are back to come get you hyper with the new video for their second single “Superteng” via Tru Thoughts. The rather comical video touches a distinct 80′s dancehall vibe in the vein of say an Admiral Bailey or Lt. Stitchie teng. Catch Deemas J milling about the house in boxing gloves doing some reps of push ups, cleaning up the dishes, buttering bagels, fighting off imaginary demons and even sparring with Wrongtom’s mum. Remoooove ya.

Positive Vibes: Watch Chronixx’s “Beat & A Mic” Video

Words by Emily Shapiro—

Chronixx

If you’re having a case of the mid-week blues, LargeUp has the cure. Chronixx, our “Artist to Watch” for 2013 (and quite possibly the “obi wan” of contemporary reggae music), has dropped a video for his anthemic “Beat & A Mic” and it has just the positive vibes to get you through to Friday. The video follows Chronixx on a bicycle ride with friends complete with scenic Jamaican oceanviews and some coconuts thrown in for good measure. The track, produced by Bost and Bim has an old-school, tranquil energy and the video does a fantastic job of supporting the message and tone through some real nice visuals. Check it out below.

Video: Wayne Marshall + His Army “Go Hard”

Words by DJ Theory—

Brand new video for one of the biggest tunes of the year from Wayne Marshall featuring—here we go—Aidonia, Damian Marley, Assassin, Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel. Now a lot of times these extra-stacked collabos can lead to an unorganized mess of verses with no real cohesion, but all of these heavy hitters in dancehall deliver their own razor sharp lyrics to this undeniable Jamaican anthem. Note the *scene missing* reel during Kartel’s phone verse…

Video: Protoje “Kingston Be Wise”

Words by DJ Theory—

A very large and undeniably inspired roots and culture tune from JA singer Protoje surfaced in inboxes recently, with a quick and solid response from some of the industy’s elite. The song—produced by frequent Protoje collaborator and big boss Don Corleone— rides impeccable 80′s digital roots style production, with Protoje delivering the message in fine style and giving a taste of what to look forward to in his upcoming sophomore EP, The 8 Year Affair. The video—running through and high above the streets and garrisons of Kingston—embodies this short story he wrote two years ago, based on the events of May 23rd, 2010 when the Jamaican government deployed its military into Tivoli Gardens in West Kingston.

If you’re feeling the song and video, be wise and let the world and the team know by tweeting @Protoje @doncorleonie with hashtag #KBW. Download the lyrics, wallpaper, artwork and short story here, and look out for the record when it drops in early 2013.

Video: I-Octane & Bounty Killer “Badmind Dem A Pree”

Words by DJ Theory —

I-Octane just unleashed the brand new video for his wicked single with the warlord himself Bounty Killer titled “Badmind Dem A Pree,” and it should be a big one. Octane has made his views on badmind and jealousy quite evident through a string of singles the past few years, however this collaborative effort from the OG—sounding sharp as ever— definitely hits the mark, reminding anyone who might be keeping too close a watch of the team that they always see dem a pree. Pree for yourself below, but maybe keep a few yards distance if yuh know what’s best…
