Like we told you a few weeks back, rap’s most-anticipated artist Drake took a page out of the gully gospel for his latest video, casting Mavado as the sharpest point of a love-triangle (also encompassing the ‘brown boy’ and dime-piece Maliah Michel) in the mini-epic he filmed in Kingston for “Find Your Love.” And now the rest of the world knows what we know: don’t misunderestimate the Gully God. Non-patois speakers check the subtitles here. Everybody else watch the full official video below…

The weather in NY is hotting up and it feels like we might be entering a new golden era of rap/reggae collabos. Mere seconds after Nikki Minaj and Cam’Ron jumped on dancehall riddims, news leaked of a collaboration–visual in this case–between rap front-runner Drake and Alliance giant Mavado, who plays a starring role in the Young Money brother’s new Jamaica-themed video. Julian Jones-Griffith, Minister of Propaganda for the Bounty Killer proteges called Alliance gave us the backstory and provided the exclusive snaps of Mavado and Drake’s OVO crew raising up at the bottom of the map, parring (at Quad nightclub?) in Kingston:
If you’re in Jamaica you already know. If you’re abroad you may be wondering if the rumors are true but yes, the unthinkable has happened. After trading a lot of grudgeful remarks about who was attending whose birthday part last weekend (seriously) Mavado called his former nemesis Vybz Kartel to join him onstage for an extended collaboration at the West Kingston Jamboree Monday morning. After a years-long feud that threatened to divide the entire island into “Gaza” (Vybz) and “Gully” (Mavado) camps, the war appears to be over just in time for the Christmas bashment season. Not coincedentally, Jamaican security forces allegedly put the word out that the two deejays would not be allowed to perform at the legendary Sting concert on December 26th unless their rivalry was officially squashed. Judging by the energy both artists brought to this performance, trading lyrics and providing back-up vocals to each other songs, we’re hoping this ushers in a new era of dancehall free from extra-curricular distractions ie press conferences with the Chief of Police.
