Words by Jesse Serwer—

Bobby Tenna

Hailing from Montego Bay, singjay Bobby Tenna recently dropped “Me Mumma,” a catchy culture tune on an infectious dancehall riddim of the same name, with Tenna dishing out messages and anecdotes gleaned from his great grandmother. Tenna and his Wilefiya Inc. have gone out and followed up with a full juggling riddim, with tunes from some of dancehall’s biggest names, including Lady Saw, Elephant Man and I-Octane.

You Rate It: Eve x Lady Saw x New Kidz, “Money Green”

Eve Lady Saw

Eve spent some time in Jamaica last month and, while there, she paid a visit to one of our favorite dancehall labels, Truckback Records, where she voiced producer Steve Locke’s new Pink Wall riddim. The sexy rapper-turned actress (whose previous flirtations with reggae/dancehall include collaborations with Damian and Stephen Marley and Shaggy) passed on the opportunity to chat ’bout her pink walls, though, opting instead to talk dollar signs with Lady Saw and New Kidz on a track called “Money Green.”

How To Get Your Groove Back: Lady Saw’s “Heels On” Video

Words by Sabia McCoy-Torres—

Lady Saw and Shaggy in "Heels On"

For many women, a regular romantic night alone with her man turns into a poppin’ night alone with her man not when the heels come off, but when they stay on (and everything else comes off). Lady Saw, always a connoisseur of pleasure, power and men, pays homage to these moments when a regular girl turns into a vixen with nothing but the power of a dope pair of heels, in her brand-new video for “Heels On.” Fully equipped with red satin sheets, wining, and, true to the song’s title, nuff pair of high-fashion heels, she lays it all on the line in her usual self-empowered diva style. To top it off, Shaggy makes an appearance as Saw’s lucky man—kind of sweet given their shared veteran status in the game.

Fashion Fridays: Shimmy Shimmy’s Summer 2012 Line

Words by Emily Shapiro, Photos by Ian Tillitson

Last week our creative friends at Shimmy Shimmy launched the art exhibition Art in the Dancehall, currently showcasing the marriage between dancehall music and visual arts in Birmingham, England. Now, they have dropped some more visual fiya on us in the form of fashion. Their 2012 summer line was just released and we have to say, we at Large Up have already placed our pre-orders. The UK-based designers have come up with some really fresh new shirts that pay homage to the old school with a “Chat to Mi Back” shirt referencing Lady Saw, of course, and the first Super Cat tee we’ve ever seen. The new line also keeps up with the times with an “A Yah Suh Nice” design, referencing Potential Kidd’s new anthem. Check some of the designs below (or in this neat video) and buy the ones you like here.
