Audio: Bob Marley + 808s Collide on Black Chiney’s “Jah Movement”

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Ever wondered what Bob Marley would sound like over some 808s? Ever wanted to suddenly shift your DJ set from reggae to Gucci Mane, without sounding like an ass? Black Chiney producer Supa Dups, a guy who’s done his best work voicing R&B singers on one-drop riddims and blending dancehall hits with hip-hop instrumentals, has got you covered then. Dups’ “Jah Movement” is a sorta refix of Bob Marley’s “Exodus” that sounds like it should be freestyled over on a Trap-A-Holics mixtape, and it bangs. It’s just an instrumental at the moment but, if I’m an A&R with enough cash to clear a Marley sample, I’m figuring out how to scoop this beat up before some mixtape MC makes it his own, seen?

Audio: The Heatwave remix “Call Me A Yardie” 15 Ways

Words by DJ Theory —

Our own UK contributor and beast of a remixer Gabriel Heatwave is back with a new one, serving up Stylo G‘s quintessential carnival anthem “Call Me A Yardie” inna Heatwave fashion.  I can only imagine this is destroying dances over the pond, and now Gabriel has been kind enough to share it with all of you to quench your raving thirst.  A slightly different approach than the “Call Me A Marley” remix by yours truly, for this round Gabriel attacks the acapella with blended precision over 15 different iconic instrumentals.  Starting off with the classic punany, he flips more dancehall riddims like Mad Collab, Diwali, One Day, Buy Out, Cosa Nostra and more with hip hop instros like Still D.R.E, Rack City, Golddigger…. you get the point, pure murderation.  DJ’s cop this NOW.

We Ah Di Best: DJ Khaled x Mavado Medley Video + Khaled’s Reggae Roots

Words by Jesse Serwer—

mavado-birdman-dj-khaled

As you may have heard, Mavado has joined DJ Khaled’s We the Best Music Group and, by extension, the YMCMB empire. After releasing his first track through the new situation in December, “Emergency,” Mavado is featured on a pair of tunes from Khaled’s Kiss the Ring, which drops tomorrow. “Suicidal Thoughts” and “Actionpak,” gathered here in a new medley video with cameos from Birdman and a surprisingly silent Khaled, fall at opposite ends of the spectrum musically. The Boi-1da-produced “Suicidal Thoughts” is a hip-hop track with big, up-front drums while “Action Pak” is some straight up dancehall business. Watch the clip below:
