After years of racking up praise at film festivals and at home in Jamaica, Storm Saulter’s Better Mus’ Come—which has been called the Jamaican movie production since The Harder They Come— is finally set to hit US theaters this weekend. The movie, a period piece set against the real-life political upheaval of late ’70s Jamaica starring Sheldon Shepard of Jamaican dub poetry group No-Maddz and model/actress/singer Nicole “Sky” Grey, begins a week-long theatrical run in New York City and Los Angeles on Friday, March 15 at the AMC Empire 25 and Downtown Independent, respectively. One-night engagements will also be held in seven US cities—Atlanta, Chicago, DC, Houston, Philly and Seattle— on Wednesday, March 13.

Better Mus Come

Storm Saulter’s award-winning Better Mus’ Come, starring Sheldon Shepard of Jamaican dub poetry group No-Maddz and model/actress/singer Nicole “Sky” Grey, has been heralded as one of the best Caribbean films since The Harder They Come. We’ve been on board from early, and even featured Storm and the movie in one of our earliest LargeUp TV webisodes. If you live in New York, perhaps you saw us in the building for Better Mus’ Come‘s New York City premiere, at the Walter Reade Theatre at Lincoln Center. The place was full to capacity, with viewers sitting in the aisles just to catch the flick. (Check out the webisode from that, too.)
