You Rate It: David Heartbreak’s “The Foundation”

Hustling bass maker David Heartbreak just dropped his first official solo record, a seven-track offering of electronic compositions showcasing what the man has been up to this past year or so in the lab. If you remember, we hipped you to Heartbreak’s Caribbean roots and some of his moombahton / dancehall crossover joints in the past; subtle layers of reggae and dancehall influence course through The Foundation, which dips into dubstep, rave, electro, acid, trap. The project was released by Skrillex‘s imprint OWSLA, obviously a huge look. Let us know how you rate the release in the comments section. Stream the album below, purchase on Beatport here.

Mixtape Mondays: Douster’s “Inna Douster Style N Fashion” (LargeUp Premiere)

Words by Deejay Theory —

douster-inna-style-n-fashion

It’s good to see French tropical/bass/club music maestro Douster moving fully in the dancehall arena with his newest project—a wicked, four- track EP featuring the fresh voices of JA talents Keida, Cee Gee, Kantana and Kari Jess (not to mention some cool, Limonious-inspired artwork). Our friends at Mixpak passed thru this week to drop off this full-length DJ mix from Douster as a teaser for the release. The mix is stacked with favorites from the early days of dancehall to today, from Gregory Isaacs and Yellowman to Busy Signal and Tifa (and some French ragga, too), so we had to do the premiere for you right here on Mixtape Mondays just to fully hype up the ting.

Video: Wrongtom meets Deemas J “Superteng”

Words by Deejay Theory —

TRUDD074_300ppi_RGB

London dancehall revivalists Wrongtom & Deemas J are back to come get you hyper with the new video for their second single “Superteng” via Tru Thoughts. The rather comical video touches a distinct 80′s dancehall vibe in the vein of say an Admiral Bailey or Lt. Stitchie teng. Catch Deemas J milling about the house in boxing gloves doing some reps of push ups, cleaning up the dishes, buttering bagels, fighting off imaginary demons and even sparring with Wrongtom’s mum. Remoooove ya.
