Fashion Fridays: A Conversation with Mission Catwalk’s Keneea Linton-George

Words by Debra Edwards—

It may be a product of the “Third World” but Mission Catwalk , the popular Jamaican television fashion reality series, cannot be classified as a third rate production. Each week viewers tune in to behold the creative designs, watch the entertaining personalities, and see who will inevitably get the axe. With season two in full gear we caught up with executive producer and host Keneea Linton-George, a well-regarded fashion designer in her own right, for a candid chat.

Fashion Fridays: G-Shock Goes Red, Gold and Green

Words by Jesse Serwer, via Soul Culture

Watchmaker G-Shock is the latest brand to unveil a Rastafarian-themed product in a red, gold (in this case it’s more on the yellow side) and green colorway. Such items tend to inspire conflicted reactions. On one hand, here you have another corporation exploiting something with deep cultural significance without forging any obvious connection with that community. On the other hand, no one owns a color combination and a clothing/accessories company’s job is to make and sell things that look good, which red, gold/yellow and green often does. We might have advised G-Shock to dub their new line something other than the “Rastafarian Series” but we can’t deny that, aesthetically, these look pretty good. Tell us your take on the watches in the comments.

This is a shoe for the young’un trying to get his grown man on, or the mature dude young enough at heart to rock Supreme without looking like a walking mid-life crisis. The nubuck suede shoes, which come in red, royal blue, black and sand colorways and retail for $158, are available at Supreme’s New York, London and Los Angeles flagship locations, or through its online store.

Fashion Fridays: Rudeboy’s Style

Words by Emily Shapiro—

Two years ago, Large Up caught up with Hubert Neal Jr., a talented Belizean visual artist who at the time was exhibiting a series of paintings that chronicled police brutality in Tivoli Gardens on their search for Christopher “Dudus” Coke. The images were quite powerful, depicting the bloody scene Hubert viewed while visiting Jamaica on an artist residency. While Neal still works across different mediums, he has taken on a much lighter project: fashion. His new T-shirt line, Rudeboy launched with a series of vintage-style ring necks with images and phrases reflective of dancehall culture and music. Each shirt can be purchased for $35 on Rudeboy’s website.
