Fashion Fridays: Ewing Athletics Returns

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Jamaican-born NBA star Patrick Ewing wasn’t only a dominant center in the late ’80s and early ’90s, he was also the face of one of the era’s definitive  sneaker brands. “Ewings” were like the hood version of Jordans, off-brand enough to be bought at a discount but cool enough to earn your peers’ admiration on the playgound, and a lot easier to find on the Ave. than at Foot Locker in the mall! After nearly 20 years of dormancy, Ewing Athletics is set to make its return to the market next month, with four colorways of the classic high-top “33 Hi.” Check out some vintage flicks from Ewing Athletics’ heyday below, and stay tuned to their site for updates on more releases.

  1. I remember having the red ones in the 2nd grade when they first dropped, but I had to return them because they started falling apart within the first week. I’m not much of a sneaker head but I wonder if the reissued ones will be constructed differently.

Yeah, they were never the best made shoes in the world.
