There was a good deal of excitement this year surrounding the annual Penn Relay track and field event. Back in 1929, 50,000 people attended Franklin Field to witness Finnish nine-time Olympic gold medalist Paavo Nurmi compete, and 81 years later, that attendance record was broken, reaching nearly 55,000, and that’s not the only record that was broken!

Since Nurmi, other track greats like Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson have all competed here, but no athlete at this event has ever created as much hype as the the fastest man on Earth, aptly named, Usain Bolt. The relay’s Web traffic was tripled compared to last year due to Usain’s appearance.  And, Jamaica was clearly in the house to support Usain and teammates Mario Forsythe, Yohan Blake and Marvin Anderson , peep the massive roaring reaction of Green, black and gold waving Jamaicans in the crowd.

Penn Relays 2010

This was definitely not the first time Usain Bolt has graced the Penn Relays. Back in his high school days ( he appeared multiple times in the city of brotherly love as the Junior world champion.

As far as we at Largeup are concerned it’s a really good look, because in addition to being the fastest man alive for the rest of humanity, he is the spokesman for Puma and the unofficial Jamaican ambassador to di worl’. Puma is especially not mad about having locked in their endorsement with Jamaica’s best export since (fill in the blank), what with Bolt hoisting his kicks in the air for the camera and repping their leaping-cat logo mainstream media, check him on Letterman right after Bejing where he broke 3 records and took 3 gold medals for Jamaica.

Bolt on Letterman so as humans, Jamaica enthusiasts and sneaker heads we are celebrating Jamaica’s triumphant win by giving away a fly pair of Puma Romas (pictured below) for FREE. They’re the closest thing most of us will ever rock to the magical winged cleats pictured above and to qualify, all you have to do is follow @largeupdotcom on Twitter. Winner will be randomly selected from new followers–just don’t forget to tweet us your shoe-size!
